TS 1510 Int: LINFA - Ph: EGAY

7/5/2015 Courtesy Japan Meteorology Agency
Severe Tropical Storm 1510, called LINFA international or EGAY in the Philippines, has reached the northern part of Luzon.

I wasn't aware of this storm, but given the continuous rain since yesterday, I checked the severe weather site of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) to find out whether this is part of the monsoon rains or perhaps a typhoon. Last time I checked was a couple of days ago and there was no depression close to the Philippines..

Indeed it's a severe tropical storm (cyclone), not yet a typhoon. Two other TS's are developing, east of the Philippines on the Pacific Ocean.

The center of the cyclone is now about 230 km from our place and will move towards Taiwan.

TS 1510 is now heading for Taiwan. The last two days we got 100 mm rain from this storm, see chart below.

The farming land around us is flooded. I guess the farmers here are happy with the rain. Many rice fields are now being planted with young rice plants.
