Elephant

If you happen to be in Bangkok, there is a chance that you suddenly are confronted with an elephant on the street or boardwalk.

It happened to me already several times, usually in the evening, but I believe that is because usually I am walking around in the evening, going to a restaurant or shopping place.

For me it was always a bit shaky, as it comes so unexpectedly.

The first time was when we had a birthday dinner in a restaurant on Sukhumvit road, the first month of our stay in Thailand, when we still stayed in a hotel, close to the restaurant. It was dark already and suddenly at the other side of the road there was a big one walking slowly with his driver.

Jasmin Tower Office

Almost every day I go to my office from Bangkok north to Nonthaburi. It's a 12 kilometers ride. If there is no traffic congestion, it takes about 15 minutes. It costs me 100 baht, so 2 euro. Usually in the morning there is not a lot of congestion, but in the evening there is, especially when there is flooding from the heavy tropical rains.

The office is in the Jasmin tower, close to the new mall @ Pakkret road, opened last year. If the air is clean, which is an exception, you can see the Bangkok downtown skyline very well.

The floor is shared with another company, we are in the upper half of the 31 storey building. The office is not very specific, just as everywhere in the world. However, what is different from my office in Europe, is that here I guess 50% is female, in Europe maybe 10%. I am talking now about the IT industry, in other industry area's it might be different.

And when I say female, it's really female. How they dress, walk and behave. They are much more fashion oriented than in any other country I have been, in Asia, in Europe as well as the America's. Although I think the Philippines comes close. Also in the office in Cabuyao, Laguna, where I've been several times, they know how to dress but not like in Bangkok, and amazingly also in that office the female population is about 50% maybe even higher.

Black Canyon Coffee

Today and yesterday I woke up early, mind you it's weekend, went to the swimming pool, on the 5th floor of the apartment building, and did my swimming exercise of 10 laps of 10 meter, so one hundred meters. That is a lot for Lolo, isn't it. I can feel it in my arm.

Then take a rest on one of the pool beds and read my book, this time I am reading "Bourne Supremacy" of Robert Ludlum. Seems to be the second of a trilogy.

At 11 a.m. back to my apartment, dress and walk to the main road, take a taxi to Central Plaza, Lad Prao. This is one of the older large shopping malls in Bangkok, but always very busy, most are young people as you see in every shopping mall. It seems that most elderly people do not like this kind of shopping malls, or have no money to spend.
